Back in 2008 I set out on a mission to make my twins 1st birthday cake. I was told by someone that because they were different sexes, I needed to make them separate cakes to celebrate their own identities. I don’t remember who that was (and to be honest I’m not sure I want to) but it has always stuck and each year from then on I have completed the annual challenge of making two cakes for my children. Since that day, despite the sweat, tears and a few swears I became hooked on cake making and continued to upskill with cake courses and online training.
In early 2013, I started MegR Cakes with the amazing support and encouragement from my family and friends. It was a dream come true and I was lucky to be able to open my first shop in New Lynn and work on a part time basis providing hand crafted celebration cakes to the public. However, due to a change in circumstances I closed the shop in January 2016 and am now working full time from my registered kitchen in Pokeno.
I pride myself on providing the best quality work, not just look wise but tasting as well. Being a self taught homebaker, it is really important to me to keep that home feeling which is why I always use the highest quality of NZ ingredients including free range eggs, organic milk/cream, Whittakers chocolate and Chelsea.
I absolutely love the challenge that each cake brings and have a huge amount of personal satisfaction when a cake is completed and delivered to the recipient.
I definitely believe that dreams really do come true but you have to put in the hard work.
Thank you for your support.
